A Venue Drenched in Warmth and Character
The couple chose a historic venue in Old Town Alexandria, VA, called the Josephine, that perfectly complemented their vision. Vintage chandeliers, deep wood walls, and rich crimson drapery set the tone for an evening that felt both luxurious and personal. The grand chandelier hanging overhead cast a golden glow across the room, reflecting off the polished surfaces and gently flickering candles. We absolutely adored this venue; it was so romantic and had so much history that it felt like we were transported back in time.
Candlelight & Chiffon: The Table Setting
The reception tables were arranged in a U-shape to encourage conversation and connection, each one draped in flowing white chiffon that pooled dramatically to the floor. Tall taper candles lined the tables, their warm flames dancing among curated florals in deep burgundies, mauves, and earthy greens. The moody floral color palette brought a grounded romance to the room, enhanced by the soft flicker of candlelight and the velvet richness of the draped walls. We took a turn from our traditional floral style to a more eccentric, dancy, aesthetic. This was our first wedding using Ikebana: the traditional Japanese art of flower arranging. The word "ikebana" translates to “living flowers” or “giving life to flowers.” Unlike typical Western floral arrangements that often focus on volume and symmetry, ikebana emphasizes harmony, minimalism, line, and space — it's as much about what’s not there as what is. It felt like the perfect fit for this space.
Every detail — from the minimalist glassware to the artful floral arrangements — was chosen with intention. Nothing felt overdone; everything whispered elegance.
The Couple: Classic, Timeless, and In Love
Emily turned heads in a sleek satin gown with a low back and flowing train — a stunning silhouette that felt both modern and classic. Her look paired beautifully with the romantic vibe of the evening. Shawn looked equally dashing in a tailored black tux, and the love between them was exuding throughout the whole room! We were crying on the inside because they both looked absolutely stunning, and we were just so happy to be a part of this special moment.
A Celebration to Remember
This wasn’t a wedding filled with noise and spectacle. Instead, Emily and Shawn gave their guests an experience — an evening that felt like stepping into a romantic film. There was laughter, quiet moments, heartfelt toasts, and above all, love woven through every thoughtful detail.
Their dark and moody wedding was a masterclass in how to create an atmosphere that’s both elevated and deeply personal. Emily and Shawn didn’t just get married — they created a memory that felt like magic.
