Inside the Mind of a wedding florist
If you are ever curious about what goes through the mind of a florist, well here it is…
Wedding floristry is a very unique job to say the least. It is an open pathway to express your creativity and work passionately with your hands. A florist hopes that the couple will absolutely adore their arrangements. Florals are a major part of wedding planning and it's very important to make sure we make the vision come to life.
Specifically, within our Business Blooming Blossoms, we’ve had ups and downs. When we were starting our first real weddings, we definitely made some mistakes along the way. There were some instances when we underestimated our time in being able to get everything prepared. Other times we were rushing that we had to finish some of the arrangements once we arrived to the venue. The amount of anxiety and stress that came in those moments was not fun. However, it all pays off when you get to see the reaction of the couple, some are more expressive than others.
There have been instances where we haven’t gotten one reaction out of the bride and we’re constantly questioning “Omg does she hate it?” Its thoughts like those that eat up our minds, especially in a high-paced environment where everything is go, go, go. You have caterers, photographers, coordinators, planners, running left to right and us florists running even faster to get everything set up. Everything has to be coordinated very well and we as florists have to have a good understanding of what the couple wants AHEAD of time. It’s almost like having a script, where we memorize where all the arrangements go, the quantity, and the timeline of the event. In some cases, we need to know the room number of where the bridal parties stay when we do our bouquet/personal deliveries.
To say the least, many things are scrambling through our minds down to the fine details. There have been some cases where we had to organize non-floral related decor per the couple's request. For example, in one of our most recent weddings, we had to set up the pipe and drape for the ceremony. That was our first time doing pipe and drape and let’s just say maybe the last. However, We did a pretty good job even though we were struggling with it for a hot minute!
Sometimes you learn things on the spot the day of the wedding, but as a team, we put all our minds together and get it done no matter what! As I previously mentioned, the one thing that we hope for as florists is that the bride is happy. Sometimes, it’s days later when we receive the sweetest email from the bride, reminding us why we love what we do—it makes it all worth it. We completely understand that a wedding day can be overwhelming, and floral arrangements are likely the last thing on a couple’s mind. That’s why they trust us to bring their vision to life, ensuring every detail is just as they imagined for their special day.
At the end of the day, wedding floristry is more than just arranging flowers—it’s about creating an experience, bringing a vision to life, and being part of a couple’s most cherished memories. Every challenge, every moment of stress, and every last-minute adjustment is worth it when we see the joy our work brings. It’s a labor of love, and at Blooming Blossoms, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
