From Corporate Suits to Color-filled Fresh Flower Days: Celebrating 5 Years of Blooming Blossoms

They say life is what you make it, so why not make it beautiful?

As I look around our brick-and-mortar studio this April, feeling the energy that our spring wedding season always brings, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. This month marks the five-year anniversary of Blooming Blossoms. Looking back at where we started and the winding road that brought us here, it feels like a beautiful accident that was always meant to be.

If you looked at our timeline - from a pandemic hobby in 2021 to a thriving brick-and-mortar in 2025, it might look like a steady climb. But the truth? It was a series of pivots, beautiful accidents, and leaps of faith that felt anything but linear.

The Spark: A Pandemic, a Couch, and a Dream

In 2020, the world had slowed down, and for the first time in my 20-year corporate career, I slowed down with it. It started on my couch, binge-watching Full Bloom on HBO Max. I became obsessed with the artistry of floral design. I thought to myself, “wouldn’t it be cool if you could take a class (like paint & sip) and learn how to build a bouquet of flowers?” Then, one night, in April 2021, over wine and charcuterie with girlfriends, that obsession turned into action. I went home, bought the domain name, and Blooming Blossoms was born.

The Detour: Chasing the "Wrong" Dream

By April 2021, I was balancing a floral side hustle with my corporate life. But then, a dream opportunity appeared in the tech startup world. I made the difficult choice to push pause on my flower side hustle, and follow the gilded tech start up path.

For 18 months, I learned a lot about Medicare, managed the strategies, and chased the wins. But deep down, I was wilting. I realized that while I was good at the high-stakes world of sales & strategy, my heart was still in the creative world of flowers. With the support of my husband and a leap of faith, I decided to stop building someone else’s dream and finally finish building my own.

June 2023: The Dive

In June 2023, I did the scariest thing I’ve ever done: I quit my full-time job. No more safety net. Just me, my shears, and a mission to “figure out what flowers means to me”.

Weddings: Saying YES

By December 2023, I started saying "yes" to weddings. That’s when everything changed. Communicating with transparency and kindness, while helping each of our couples understand how to maximize their wedding budget was the key to unlocking our wedding business. We build a flower "shed" in the back yard that functioned at our flower studio for the first two wedding seasons. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was the grit that allowed us to grow.

FUN FACT: Most people don't realize that the majority of bespoke wedding florists operate out of garages, basements, or sheds. For years, I was no different! Originally rehabbing a shed in our yard, then eventually also taking over our garage.

September 2025: From Shed in the Backyard to Brick-and-Mortar

After a six months of scouting, three months of lease negotiations, and six more months of construction & permit approvals, we finally did it. On September 6, 2025, we opened our first brick-and-mortar location. We moved from the backyard shed & garage into our vibrant flower studio where we can host workshops, private events, and wedding consultations. We’ve turned our studio into a destination - a place where you can learn a new skill and maybe even make a new friend.

Why the "Winding Road" Matters

If I’m being honest, I used to wonder if I was doing it "wrong" because my path wasn't a straight line. But I’ve realized that every business grows in its own season.

My 20 years in sales taught me how to listen to our customers needs, and to put them first. My leadership experience gave me the toolkit to survive the "speedbumps" of small business cash flow. My time in the tech world taught me about scalability - not every problem needs to be solved today. Every "distraction" was actually a lesson.

Celebrating 5 Years

Today, Blooming Blossoms is a thriving team of three and a vibrant part of this city. Whether you’ve been with us since the side hustle days or you just walked through our doors for a workshop, thank you. You’ve shown me that the best things in life don't follow a script - they just need a little room to bloom.

Here’s to the next five years of making it beautiful!
